The reason why america is so "individualistic" is not because of lack of communication but because americans have a fundamental, almost anal need for control and power so that they can decide who fits where and make sure they keep it that way. There are so many cities built on imaginary boundaries that separate the rich from the poor, the gay from the straight, the white from the black, the natives from the imigrants, etc etc., the perfect status quo don't you think? It's safe, it's predictable, it gives them control, it makes sense...


Yes, I agree with you... to name, to clasify everything make people have control so feel safe... but this "individuality" happens only in Nort American cities?

...and how deep is this collective identity to bind people? does it works the same when you are in your country than when you are abroad?
