It's a mix of eastern thought, christian mysticism and psychological thought that deals with the spiritual and for some reason it attracts me to it. I will tell you a story. In my teenage years, I had two friends, one who was a believer and the other an atheist. We used to get in debates like these. I thought it was stupid to be an atheist and to take a stance against the existence God, as if he had solved the riddle of the world with such convinction. SO I had a big problem with materialistic atheism. I had a problem because it emphasized too much rationalism. It focused only on what people can see, hear, smell, taste, in other words all sense perceptions. We have too much rationalism in this world. Where we are concerned with efficiency and getting things done fast and cheap. And still people are victims of their past and their own psyche. Atheist thought that everything outside of these sense perceptions was wrong and should not be there such as intuition. Well that's stupid, I thought. Intuition exists. It's a fact. And the literal believer one, he bugged me as well but I will not go into the reasons why but he took everything literal to the detriment of his common sense. Just because I beleive does not mean, I throw my rational brain out.

I'm not going to dwell too deep but this is what has influenced me.

It really is nonsensical the idea of atheism since having experienced it myself in my teenage years I still struggled with the idea of meaning. I didn't believe in a god but I questioned: "Why am i here for? What's the meaning of life?" If atheism is a viewpoint of " what you see/measure is what you get" why would one ask for a meaning of things like I did.

On the other hand, taking the Bible too literally (like some have done and misinterpreted it) is not healthy either. There are parts that need to be taken very literally because they are quite black and white in the Bible ( some passages on salvation) , and there are others that are not at all clear cut in the Bible and one needs to use reason and logic,wisdom, wrestle and struggle to make his/her own decisions.

I am sorry to interrupt your discussion again guys but in today's news was that a porn movie is candidate for Oscar this year. Far from "resurgence" of the morality and belief which started this thread

I really hope it does get the Oscar in order for us to get a healthier state of mind and became truthful and tasteful nonanimal beings

Lorie, any kind of addiction is not good, and not just porn, drugs, alcohol,... etc. I used to have a female colleague who was very addicted to eating healthy. She doesn't eat carbs or fats. She eats only brown rice, no pasta, no pizza, no bread, no processed foods, no fast foods at all. No milk. The only kind of chesse she eats is goat cheese. Mostly raw veggies, fruits, salads with only vinegar, not even olive oil. She spends a lot of money on food, because she is so obssesed with quality. Not just food though. I don't even understand how she can afford it. She is 32 years old, single not sure if she is in a relationship right now, but she shares an apartment with another girl, because she can 't afford financially to live on her own. I think that she is too focused on herself, and she is not able to share her life with somebody else, who doesn't eat healthy like she does. She has a perfect body of course but at same time her "healthy obssesion" is killing her relationships with other men. I can't even imagine her in a long term relationship, or furthermore being married, with kids.
My point is, " Too much of anything is bad."

Sure I agree.


Even too much sterilization and lack of bacteria can be very harmful. Bacteria is actually good for you. Endri touched upon this as well as I did on the spiritual/psychological aspect.

How about the addiction to religion ?
