In the era we live we have the possibility to select what to watch. Not simply by changing TV channel, but by actively searching topics that we are interested in. While this gives more freedom for self-learning and self-education, there is the danger that we see only what we want to see and ignore important chunks of society life.
However, concerning the topic, I don't watch reality shows not because they degrade something but because they are not real. They are simply fake. I am curious by nature and would like to see a real reality show, i.e. closing 10 people in a house and looking to their behavior without any tv oriented guide. Authentic people behavior is nice to see. The matter is that TVs want to sell for real a show that is not real. It's just a show.
About talk shows, they get boring soon. The fact that the same "TV star" conducts the 1456-th series after 10 years of the same show makes me think the audience lacks fantasy. Any TV program becomes outdated in a few years. Even albanian Portokalli is now unwatchable. Putting on-air the same program of 20 years ago is beneficial for those who calculate money (since they know how will it go) and for those that control power (because they keep people's mind in a slow changing mode).
