I think you are mixing two issues here.
Men or women should not be taught at a young age that w/o a man or woman, you have no worth as if your own worth depended exclusively on the other person. Does it enrich your life? Yes, but it's not the end all & be all. And Christianity does not teach that having a life partner will bring you fulfillment either.
As far as cohabitation or not, I have friends who have done that but they are not Christians so they don't have such a conviction I do because they frankly don't believe in that sort of things.
However, it's funny you mention the cohabitation aspect. We had a similar discussion with my friends at grad school a few weeks ago and I learned something I never knew before :that people who cohabitate and later get married have higher divorce rates than people who have not cohabitated but marry right away. And the reason they mentioned was a switch or change of roles from 'roommates' to sharing things together such as finances and so forth and so the adjustment gets too hard for them.
