No I don't expect God to stop gravity, because someone decides to jump off a building.
I don't expect Got to turn a wall into cheese because someone decides to smash his head against the wall.
These are their choices not God's.
I expect God, the merciful, the all loving, the all knowing, not to kill 150,000 people (on his decision - see the difference?).
He who made all the worlds, the planets, everything and loves us so much, couldn't find a way how to stir up water on Earth, but to kill a lot of his most beloved??
This logic doesn't hold up water.. ya know..
Like i mentioned, the Laws of nature to keep the atmosphere in a balance, or if you have heard of the 'butterfly effect' term, has to do a lot. IN a nutshell, the 'butterfly effect' is explained when a small change in nature ( say the flapping of a butterfly's wings), can influence several weeks later a hurricane in another part of the world. It's all interconnected, everything is.
However, you ask about God's actions as if he exists. In doing so, you ask sth that concerns faith, and in this case, the reply would be something connected to faith. You are not going to like the answer then.
And raid, palm reading, astrology, voices in people's heads.... have already MADE IT THROUGH. People make up all sorts of practices whether technology and science advance or not. But it's quite a mistake to compare them to historic events.
Finally, since science is amoral, neutral and objective,it does not claim in principle that God exists,it is not its job. ( though you would be surpirsed to find out the number of scientists, doctors etc that are believers and have lost their jobs as scientists because they claimed to be believers)
Science explains how things work, not from whom things originated. They are very separate paradigms whose main objective is one: TRUTH. They are simply very different means to getting at it.
I also find that agnostics/skeptics ( people who are unsure if God exists or not) are more truthful than atheists ( who claim to be bold at believing nothing) Scientifically speaking ,since science cannot make the claim that God exists because it's outside its realm of expertise, it also does not say that God does not exist. In principle science says : It's not proven yet, so we don't know. but not that it doesn't exist. In other words, atheism is a crappy worldview, and being an ex-atheist myself, a very hopeless, aimless, one at that.
Good luck my friend.
